The Tiger Woods Facebook Mistake

Hey Guys,

As we all know Tiger Woods has been in the news a lot lately…..I mean a lot. My mother called me the other day and told me she has resorted to watching reruns and old movies to avoid hearing his name again! She completely stopped watching the news. Before I go any further I thought I would share this pretty funny video that has been going around:

Some of you may have found it funny and others maybe not so much. I just wanted to share it with you because it was sent to me today and there should be a lesson that comes from this….Moving on.

The reason why Tiger Woods has been in the news so much is because of one thing….consistency. you might say to yourself: “I thought it was because they are saying he is cheating”. The truth is that is only part of it. If this was Terrel Owens the story would never have even made it past sports center’s late night show.

You see Tiger has never been in the news for negativity. He has always had good sportsmanship and a great rapport with other golfers. He Had a squeaky clean image for his 15 year career and now his personal life conflicts with the image we had of him in his professional life. Gatorade has already stopped producing their “Tiger” flavor. Other endorsements are contemplating the same thing.

So what does this have to do with you and me? Good question…. As you know I do a lot of marketing on social media. Before I did so I used youtube and facebook for fun like everyone else. Lets just say that when I was in college I was a HUGE party-er and documented every minute of it.

Well as you can imagine I had a hard time getting leads from facebook in the beginning, because people wouldn’t take me seriously. How can I tell you that i am a leader in the market place and that you should follow me when you can go to my page and see multiple examples of me acting a fool?

What opened my eyes was when my father got a facebook page and told me that I should probably watch what I have on my page. He said to me “if you want to be taken seriously you need to change about 40% of what you have on your page!”. I took this to heart and made some major changes. I saw what the gurus were putting on their pages and something clicked!

I am not saying to stop having fun but you should make sure that you would not be embarrassed by what people will see when they go through your pictures. You want to still be you but just don’t get too crazy in your pictures. A good way to look at it is don’t post pictures that you would not want your parents to see.

Consistency is the key. You want to make sure that the Networking Professional you want to portray does not conflict with your personal life. You do this wrong and you will not have people endorsing you just like what Tiger is facing now.
